What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the method of achieving “trance states.” Trance is facilitated through hypnotic language patterns that include guided three-dimensional visualization, metaphors, stories, suggestion and other techniques.

What Is “Trance?”
Trance is a natural state of focused attention, often very relaxing. Everyone experiences a trance state nearly every day.  An often-cited example is driving in the car listening to music and not remembering part of the drive. Another helpful example is petting a kitten or a puppy, which transports you nearly instantly into another state of awareness. These are typical versions of trances.

What Is Neuro-linguistic Programming?
Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) is a structured form of hypnotherapy used to surface and address issues that prevent positive constructive behavior change. One of the many techniques in NLP is the surfacing and realization of your natural and already successful resources.  Everyone has successful resources and abilities that work in one area of their life that can be allocated to other areas of their life that are in need.  An example might be a person who is very organized and effective at work but lacks the structure in their personal finances.  At National Hypnosis we can take the same attributes that make a person successful in one setting and hypnotically transfer those attributes to other settings allowing the person to be effective and successful at both. What Is The Difference Between Stage Hypnosis And Hypnotherapy?
Stage Hypnosis is used to perform a comedy stage show with volunteers sharing their personalities to comedic effect. Hypnotherapy is about helping you achieve your personal emotional wellness goals in a safe and confidential setting with a highly trained and caring professional with your interests at heart.

What Is Hypnotherapy Used For?
Most commonly, Hypnosis and NLP are used to help people remove unwanted behavior, involuntary reactions and debilitating blocks in their unconscious mind that prevent them from moving forward and achieving their goals in life. Other areas we commonly work in are phobias, stress reduction, interpersonal issues, academic, and sports performance, motivation and creativity, anxiety and even working with specific cases of PTSD. The newest area we are working with is unconscious body activation for healing. Do I Need To Have A Problem To Use Hypnosis?

How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Normally it takes 3 sessions.   The first to do the change work, the second to remove any related outstanding issues and the third to solidify the changes made. However, there are many things where one session is all that is needed, in particular, a specific fear or phobia. 

At National Hypnosis we have worked with people once, and we have seen people many times over the course of 5-10 years.  It all depends on how much you want to accomplish in your life. What Is a Hypnotherapy Session Like?

  • The hypnotherapist will begin by ascertaining what you want to work on. This will be very specific and is the most important part of the process.
  • Once there is agreement on the subject to work on the hypnotherapist will invite you to relax using his or her proven techniques.
  • Some people will relax deeply others may stay more alert. Either works. This is very enjoyable.
  • The hypnotherapist will guide you, acting as your coach as you work through the experience you want to improve by implementing useful new choices for positive changes.
  • You will work both in the past and the future cementing in your positive changes and choices at a deep unconscious level.
  • The hypnotherapist will emerge you from your relaxed state, ensuring you are fully alert and ready to drive home.

Common Misconceptions about Hypnosis

  • Can I be told to do something against my will? –  You do not lose your moral compass and you will not do anything against your will.
  • Will I fall asleep? – Generally, clients are focused and awake. At the deepest level of relaxed trance clients still respond to suggestions.
  • What will I do under hypnosis? – Goals and outcomes are discussed in advance of sessions, and it is those outcomes that are worked for.
  • Can I move? – Of course, most NLP and Brief Eriksonian Hypnosis has the client at some level of physical activity. Some techniques even require the client to be moving their hands.  However, there are cases where the client may wish not to move some part of their body, such as their hand, in order to understand that they are in hypnosis.
  • Will I remember the session? – Each person’s experience of hypnosis is unique. Some people remember everything that is said, others may let their minds drift.
  • How will I know if I’ve been hypnotized? – Most people innately will know that they have had a subjective helpful and relaxing experience. One key feature is that time seems “to fly.”

Where did Cynthia and Jon Receive Their Certification?
Cynthia and Jon both received their Certification in Brief Eriksonian Hypnosis and Neuro-linguistic Programming from the Mid Atlantic Hypnosis Training Academy. They were certified by Ron Klien who is a master instructor with over 30 years of clinical hypnosis instruction. Mr. Klien trains healthcare professionals including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Social Workers. Mr. Klien has studied with the foremost leaders in hypnotherapy including Richard Bandler, John Grinder, and Richard Dilts.  Cynthia and Jon have both since studied personally with Richard Bandler, the inventor of NLP. They have also studied stage hypnosis with Marc Savard in Las Vegas.

What Professional Associations Does National Hypnosis belong To?
Cynthia and Jon are members of IACT (International Association of Counselors and Therapists) and is required to maintain their certification by attending continuing training on an annual basis. They are also members of The National Guild of Hypnotists and International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association.

How is Hypnosis different from an Intuitive Counseling session with Cynthia?
Hypnosis and NLP are a specific, effective and proven set of techniques using linguistics, visualization, and trance to help people remove unwanted behavior. An Intuitive Counseling session is the actual “tuning in” to a person’s larger self to help the individual see “further down the road” of life. While an Intuitive Counseling session can determine what the roadblocks are, it often takes hypnosis and NLP to remove the blocks.

Session Recordings
At your specific request, a hypnosis session can be recorded for your convenience. This applies to “deep trance” sessions and not to NLP structured interventions for such issues as phobias. Recordings are done as a “gratuity.”  The fee that is paid is for a block of time, not for the recording of the session. If you want to absolutely ensure that you get a recording of your session, please make a point to record it yourself in the way that you can.  Cynthia does not guarantee the delivery of your session recording. Again, the fee that is paid is for the time spent with Cynthia, not for the file delivery of the recorded session.  All files are sent in standard Windows and Mac* compatible MP3 audio format within two to three business days or sooner if possible.

Session Recordings Technical FAQ
We record the session at client’s request and for the client’s convenience. The files that we produce, are emailed to you in a Windows and Mac* compatible MP3 audio file via a file transfer service such as Hightail.com and WeTransfer. Clients must have an email account to get their recording. The download links sent expire shortly after they are sent, so it is incumbent on the client to download the file in a timely manner. We do not provide CDs or cassette tapes of readings. Please note that we cannot provide phone or email support.
