Connie Jackson never had trouble taking a test until she encountered the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. Connie took the test for the first time in December of 2012 and again in January of 2014 and failed both times, developing a deep-seated fear of the four-hour test in the process.
“It became a phobia,” says Connie, a government contractor. “I let it run my life. I did not want anything to do with the PMP again. But I knew that in order to move my career forward and to be competitive, I needed that (PMP) certification.”
Connie decided to take the test a third and final time. And although she spent many hours studying, her anxieties took over as the test date approached, creating a profound mental block that threatened to sabotage her efforts.
On the day before the test, Connie took a chance and contacted Cynthia Miles, co-owner of National Hypnosis in Sterling, Va. She underwent a hypnotherapy session that allayed her deep–seated anxieties while giving her a renewed sense of hope and confidence. And the next day, Connie easily passed the PMP. As she puts it, “I blew it out of the water.”
Connie says Cynthia’s form of hypnotherapy gave her an added boost, a critical edge that made it possible for her to ace the dreaded PMP. In the following weeks, Connie passed two more certification exams, further increasing her earnings potential while making her much more marketable and competitive in the business world. For Connie, the couple hundred dollars she spent on the hypnotherapy session was a life investment, resulting in enormous personal and professional gains.
Connie’s experience is indicative of the type of success people achieve when working with Cynthia Miles and National Hypnosis. Cynthia and her husband Jon Miles, the other half of National Hypnosis, are both certified hypnotherapists. Over the past several years, National Hypnosis has treated hundreds of clients, employing a unique brand of hypnotherapy and coaching to help people overcome a vast variety of illnesses and challenges, including sleep and eating disorders, addictions, fears and phobias and other maladies that weigh on people, diminishing their energy, focus, and purpose.
Hypnosis is Calm Relaxing Focus
“Hypnosis is basically a state of learning”Cynthia Chauvin Miles, CHTWith hypnosis, the hypnotist or hypnotherapist puts subjects in a trance-like state that simultaneously relaxes the body and mind. Unlike sleep, the mind is highly aware and focused, making subjects open to suggestibility, relaxation, and heightened imagination. In this trance-like state, the subject is conscious but is able to focus more intently on a specific issue or issues with other thoughts and the surrounding environment naturally falling away. Similarly, in everyday life, hypnosis is like losing yourself in a book or movie.
“Hypnosis is basically a state of learning,” explains Cynthia. “It is a state where you can download information faster. Information goes into your subconscious faster and becomes part of your whole system view.”
There are many different forms of hypnosis. Cynthia and Jon practice and are certified in four forms of hypnosis, including Neuro-Linguistic Programming, NLP, Eye Movement Integration, Brief Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and Stage Hypnosis. This gives Cynthia and Jon a set of tools that 90 percent of hypnotherapists lack, making it possible for Cynthia and Jon to pivot quickly when necessary to adjust to their client’s needs by drawing from their diverse set of hypnosis resources and unique background.

NLP encompasses the three most influential components that shape and determine behavior—neurology, language, and programming. By employing NLP, Jon and Cynthia reach deep into a person’s subconscious, producing almost immediate and enduring changes. They succeed in eliminating certain behaviors as well as the root causes that account for the behaviors, going far beyond traditional hypnosis and thus making National Hypnosis truly unique.
“The value of this cannot be understated,” says Jon. “I want people to understand that this is an investment they are making for themselves. This is not therapy to fix something that is broken. Although we might use therapeutic techniques, we are not therapists. We are bringing people back to their authenticity – we are performance enhancing.”
Pass the PMP and Make More Money
Take the example of Connie Jackson. As a project manager, Connie deals with crises on a regular basis. “People panic,” Connie says. “They say, ‘Oh my God, we are not going to meet these deadlines – oh, my God this, oh my God that.’” Because Connie knew how to handle stress professionally, during the hypnotherapy session, Cynthia asked Connie what she says to employees when they are in a crisis mode. “I kind of smiled and said, ‘don’t worry we got this,’” says Connie. “That’s my response to everything, no matter how much fire is on the roof – don’t worry about it, ‘we’ve got this.’”
Cynthia hypnotized Connie to adopt that saying as her own internal hypnotic mantra, and Connie applied it when taking and passing the PMP exam. “This is key to understand,” says Cynthia. “With Connie I used her existing resources to help her move forward.”
“Once I passed the PMP exam I was able to move forward,” she says. “I removed a giant elephant that was blocking me.”Connie Jackson
Connie Jackson agrees that her personal and professional gains from just one hypnotherapy session with Cynthia and National Hypnosis are “immeasurable.” She plans to take more hypnotherapy sessions with Cynthia.
“Once I passed the PMP exam I was able to move forward,” she says. “I removed a giant elephant that was blocking me.”
Connie is now confident in asking for more money. “And if I want to take a job outside of the federal government, the PMP and the other certifications will follow me wherever I go,” she says.
